How to Land a RevOps Job

Getting your dream RevOps job is within your reach. Set yourself up for success by following these four key steps:

Understand your potential employer’s company structure.

Every company has a different approach to how they structure their RevOps org. Before an interview, do your research to understand the distribution of their GTM teams. This can tell you a lot about what the company values and prioritizes.

For example, if the Sales Ops team is bigger than the Marketing Ops and Customer Experience teams combined, the company might focus more on customer acquisition than retention.

Showcase your experience.

Identify previous work that you can highlight on your resume and in your interviews. Think through examples that demonstrate your expertise in:

  • Defining and executing a strategy  
  • Solving a problem
  • Collaborating across teams
  • Setting and meeting goals
  • Creating and optimizing processes

Having solid examples will help set you apart from your competition and show the value you bring to a company.

Build your network.

Plan ahead for your interview.

One of the most nerve-wracking parts of interviewing is the unknown. What questions will I be asked? What topics will we cover? 

Calm your worries by thinking through potential questions and your responses ahead of time.  Get started with these topics and questions that often come up in RevOps interviews:

Topic 1: Technology Expertise

  • Do you have experience managing a tech stack?
  • How do you strategically plan for downstream impacts that could happen 6-8 months from now?
  • What’s your experience with Salesforce?
  • How do you stay on top of tech trends?

Topic 2: Process Management

  • Tell me about a time when you created a process that ended up not being evergreen. How did you change or optimize it?
  • What are your best practices for capturing tickets and requests from your GTM teams? 
  • When you go to make a change that impacts another system, how do you communicate those changes cross-functionally to ensure they don’t negatively impact other teams?

Topic 3: Reports

  • What’s your process for managing reports? How do you ensure you’re not creating duplicates every time? 
  • How do you go about understanding what your end-user is trying to accomplish with a report?
  • Tell me about the most complex dashboard you created for an executive and your involvement in that process. How did you help them answer the questions they were trying to solve?

Topic 4: Project Management

  • How do you typically divvy up work?
  • How do you communicate assignments to your team members?
  • What are your best practices for documenting scope and dependencies when project planning?
